Jason Lang Feat. Amanda Marshall-Boomerang Love
Everyone has a well-crafted well-written bio put together by an industry pro describing how awesome they are. Personally, I’d rather just tell you a bit about myself, and then you can listen to my music, maybe watch a few Youtube clips, and make up your own mind. So here goes.My name is Jason Lang. I’ve spent years writing, making records, and touring with some of Canada’s most renowned artists, and two years ago I decided to do my own thing.
My first CD “Beautiful Disguise” was recorded mostly in various makeshift hotel room/recording studios in and around Europe while I was on tour as a musician. It was done strictly for my own pleasure, but when a publicist in my home province of Quebec heard it, she suggested that we try to do something with it.
She was right. I wound up doing almost every live performance television talk show in Quebec and ended up with a lot of radio play throughout the province, even garnering the number one chart position on a number of stations, and getting some great reviews.
The year that followed kept me extremely busy with promo and many live performances, and although the “completely indie” experience was fabulous and an amazing learning adventure, I knew that the second time around I wanted to have a little help. So I got together with “my gang” and hooked up with a new local up-and-coming label Les Productions 1890 that pretty much gave me “carte-blanche” for my second CD. For me, that meant recording the songs that I wanted in a world-class studio, which I did, at studio Piccolo in fabulous Montreal.
My new CD is titled “BOOMERANG”. Similarities between the first and second: One major similarity is that with the exception of the drums, an eight piece string section and a few very special guests including Amanda Marshall, I play all the instruments. I don’t think this is entirely an “ego” thing, I’m just completely obsessed by music, and when I see an instrument, I have to play it. Musically it is less “folky”, less acoustic, but I think that on a number of the songs, you’ll hear my acoustic roots still coming though. Why do I say acoustic roots? Because of my parents. My mother Penny Lang, is somewhat of a folk music Icon in Canada, and my father, the late Dave Van Ronk, is a folk music legend in the US. I am decidedly more “pop” but hey! I grew up during a different era of music!
